The McNeil’s pioneering work in the San Luis Valley on cooperative water usage regimes, alternative calving seasons, more economical haying methods, and organic certification of their ranch earned them state and national conservation awards.
The McNeils founded the Rock Creek Heritage Project working to conserve 15,000 acres of ranch lands adjoining Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to serving in many community leadership roles, they share their skills with other ranchers, and initiate community-driven conservation projects.
