Environmental Policy Innovation Center Enters New Phase of Addressing Serious Environmental Challenges for US Communities

Sand County Foundation, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit conservation organization, announced the spinoff of the Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) after an 8-year incubation period. The move marks a significant milestone in both organizations’ shared commitment to advancing conservation and environmental improvement nationwide.

Over the course of Sand County Foundation’s fiscal sponsorship of EPIC, it provided administrative and operational support until EPIC could establish itself as an independent and impactful 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Sand County Foundation has a long track record of similar fiscal sponsorships.

“Sand County Foundation is proud to have played a role in the tremendous growth of EPIC over eight years,” said Kevin McAleese. Sand County Foundation’s President and CEO. “We are excited to see EPIC thrive independently as they continue their important work.”

During the fiscal sponsorship, EPIC launched and expanded programs in areas related to water quality, environmental equity, and endangered species.

“Sand County Foundation played an instrumental role during our start-up phase, and we are incredibly grateful to them,” said Dr. Tim Male, Executive Director of the Maryland-based Environmental Policy Innovation Center. “The support and guidance provided, especially from their leadership and board, was instrumental in a dozen ways. As we move forward independently, we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them and find innovative ways to improve environmental progress together.”

With the fiscal sponsorship concluded, EPIC is positioned to continue its mission to accelerate the pace and efficiency of environmental policies.

Sand County Foundation remains committed to equipping farmers, ranchers, forestland owners and other private land managers with the tools and data they need to care for natural resources.
