Could power plant waste help cut water pollution?

Science Magazine published an article about Sand County Foundation's work with WeEnergies and farmers on nutrient runoff reduction. The project is aimed at testing an unusual water pollution control scheme that uses gypsum, a waste product from coal-fired power plants, to reduce nutrient runoff from farms.

Brooks Farms Named 2016 Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award® Recipient

Sand County Foundation, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association are proud to announce Brooks Farms as the recipient of Wisconsin’s Leopold Conservation Award^®. The award honors Wisconsin landowner achievement in voluntary stewardship and management of natural resources. The announcement was made during the November 17 meeting of the Wisconsin Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Board in Madison. 

Blue Mountain Peak Ranch Named 2016 Leopold Conservation Award Winner

When Richard Taylor and his late wife, Sally, moved to Texas in 2001 and bought land in the heart of Mason County, they knew their work was cut out. The land, which had been overgrazed and overworked for years, was in desperate need of restoration. Fifteen years later, the Taylors’ dedication to habitat and wildlife conservation has earned their Blue Mountain Peak Ranch recognition as the 2016 Leopold Conservation Award recipient for Texas.

Sand County Foundation Announces New Leopold Conservation Award Program Director

Sand County Foundation has named Lance Irving as national director of the Leopold Conservation Award Program®. He joins Sand County Foundation with more than 15 years of experience in sales and marketing. Irving previously served as chief sales and marketing officer at Martin Sports and at Precision Shooting Equipment. In addition to his executive experience, he spent several years as a professional fishing and hunting guide in Alaska and outside of the United States.
