The Seed Starter Activity is a free, low-commitment entry point into Sand County Foundation's Pollinator Habitat Education Program, open to K-12 classrooms across our program states. Participating teachers receive free native wildflower seeds and step-by-step guidance to germinate them with students, with the option to use an easy winter sowing method that requires no special equipment or greenhouse access. 

Over the course of the school year, students grow at least 100 native seedlings, then either plant a 100-square-foot pollinator garden at their school or share their seedlings with the community. It's an ideal starting point for teachers who are new to growing native plants, work with younger students, or want to grow their confidence. Many teachers go on to pursue our more in-depth Pollinator Habitat Grant in future years.

We will invite applications for the 2026-2027 school year in September 2026.
